Water Exercise & Aqua Fitness

All the workout, less impact on your joints.

Water exercise classes at the Nashua and Merrimack YMCAs are a fun, low-impact way to build strength, flexibility and endurance. The water supports your body, so classes are a great fit whether you're easing into exercise, managing joint pain, or simply love the pool.

Aqua Fit

A full-body workout using the water's natural resistance.

Aqua Zumba

A dance party in the pool. Upbeat music, easy-to-follow moves.

Deep-water exercise

A no-impact workout in deeper water, usually with flotation support.

Each class description explains the format, pool depth and any swimming skills needed. Trying something new? Let the instructor know, and they'll help you adjust any move to your comfort level.

Come for the Workout, Stay for the People

Water exercise classes are welcoming, encouraging and social, and a lot of friendships start in the pool. It's a great way to feel part of the Y community.

Your First Class

Bring a swimsuit, towel and water bottle. Arrive a few minutes early, introduce yourself to the instructor and ask where the class meets and what equipment you'll use.

Common Questions

Common Questions

Do I need to know how to swim?

Not for every class. Many classes take place in shallow water. Deep-water classes require comfort in deep water. Check the class description or ask our staff.

Is water exercise good for seniors or people with arthritis?

Water supports your body and reduces stress on joints, which is why many active older adults love these classes. Check with your doctor if you have health concerns.

Are classes included with membership?

Most group classes are included. Any class with an extra fee is marked on the schedule.

Where are classes held?

At the Nashua YMCA and the Merrimack YMCA. Check each location's aquatic schedule for current times.
